How it works

A broadcast goes to people you already know. Choose from seven lists: page subscribers, form respondents, Instagram contacts, store customers, and the three Superfans groups (Inner circle, Regulars, and Warming up). Someone in several lists is counted and reached only once.

Each person can receive an email if they shared an address, an Instagram DM if they messaged you in the last 22 hours, or both. The chips under each list show a few people. Select “+N” to open the searchable full list and see how each person can be reached. The count includes everyone reachable through that list, so Inner circle includes fans who never shared an email.

Anyone who unsubscribed, bounced, or is tagged as spam or a brand inquiry is always left out, and the summary says how many were left out and why.

Essentials can email up to 250 people per broadcast, Pro 1,000 and Studio 10,000, within a monthly email allowance of 1,000 / 5,000 / 20,000 (unlimited through your own Resend or SendGrid). The Instagram DM part is capped at 100 on Essentials and 500 on Pro and Studio. If a list is bigger than your limit, narrow it with “joined in the last N days” and send in more than one go.

Write plain text with simple formatting. A blank line starts a new paragraph, **bold** makes text bold, and [text](https://…) creates a link. {{first_name}} becomes each person’s first name, or “there” when it is missing. Add a button and feature a store product. Its image and price stay current. The preview shows the email as recipients will see it.

Before you send, a checklist flags what would go wrong: a mistyped token that would go out as literal text, a button with no link, wording that trips spam filters, a subject that gets cut off on phones. Errors block sending; warnings are advice.

Send now or schedule up to 60 days ahead. Recipients are selected when the broadcast goes out. Anyone who unsubscribes before then is left out, and anyone who joins is included. Watch it send, stop it while it is sending, then review delivery, clicks, unsubscribes, and failures.

Email and Instagram DM use separate switches that follow the lists you choose. Page subscribers, form respondents, and store customers use email. Instagram contacts and Superfans use DM. If you choose both kinds of lists, both switches turn on. An empty list still turns on its channel, so you can write and schedule ahead of time. You can turn either switch off manually or turn on email for Instagram contacts who shared an address. DM-only broadcasts do not need an email subject, sender details, or email provider. The email editor stays on the page when email is off. If you change the lists, the switches update to match.

The DM only reaches the people you picked who messaged you in the last 22 hours. Instagram only allows a message within 24 hours of the other person’s last message, and we leave a margin so a queued DM doesn’t expire before it is sent. The DM box shows how many people can be DMed right now, and how many just missed the cutoff. A big send takes hours to go out (every DM goes through your account’s hourly limit, and a product tile counts as a second DM), so anyone whose window would close before their turn is left out and counted, with a note to send in smaller batches. The button and product are shared by both channels. Every DM ends with a STOP line; anyone who replies STOP is never DMed by a broadcast again.

Emails are delivered through your Resend or SendGrid account, so they come from your domain and use your sender reputation. Every footer includes your name and postal address, as required for commercial email. If you reach your provider’s daily sending limit, the broadcast pauses and resumes automatically without losing recipients.

Set it up

  1. 1

    Add your sender details

Open Broadcast and add the name and postal address that go in every footer. Then connect Resend or SendGrid in Settings → Integrations.

    Open Broadcast
  2. 2

    Start a broadcast

Click New broadcast. It saves as you type; nothing is sent until you confirm.

  3. 3

    Choose who

Select the people or Instagram fan groups who should get the message. You can limit it to people who joined recently. Email and Instagram DM turn on or off to match the selected lists.

  4. 4

    Write and preview

Write the subject and message, add a button or a product, and read the live preview. “Send me a test” emails a copy to your own inbox.

  5. 5

    Send or schedule

Click Send or schedule, check the number, and choose now or a time. The campaign page shows progress and, when it finishes, the report.

Tips to get the most out of it

  • Send yourself a test first to check how the email looks in your inbox, including the footer.
  • Use “people who joined in the last 30/90 days” for launches; the freshest subscribers are the most likely to open and the least likely to complain.
  • Feature a product instead of a paragraph about it. The card carries the image and the current price, and the click goes straight to checkout.
  • After fixing a problem, such as an unverified sender or expired key, retry the failed sends. The broadcast retries only recipients who did not get the email and skips anyone who has since unsubscribed.
  • Duplicate a finished broadcast to send a follow-up: it copies the message, button, product and list choice into a fresh draft and nothing about how the first one went.
